About

VE Day Commemorative Hope and Glory

The Palace presents our special VE Day Commemorative Film Night - Hope and Glory.

VE Day Commemorative Special: Hope and Glory is a 1987 comedy-drama war film written, produced, and directed by John Boorman based on his own experiences growing up in London during World War II. For a young boy, this time in history was more of an adventure, a total upheaval of order, restrictions and discipline. The liberating effect of the war on the women left behind. And the joy when Hitler blows up your school.

A critical and commercial success, the film won the Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture Musical or Comedy and received five Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay (all for Boorman).

Starring Sarah Miles, David Hayman and Sebastian Rice-Edwards

Film rating: Certificate 15, film length - 1 hour & 53 minutes.

The Palace will be decorated 1940's war time style. Before the main film there will be vintage newsreels and original public announcement bulletins - these will be running from 7pm.
