Dive into the provocative and unflinching world of Michael Haneke, one of contemporary cinema’s most audacious auteurs. Through film excerpts, discussions, and analysis, participants will gain a deeper understanding of Haneke’s artistic vision and the profound impact of his work.
Michael Haneke’s films tackle multiple facets of humanity, grappling with themes like alienation, violence, and moral ambiguity.
This one-day course invites participants to explore the cinematic language and techniques that define Haneke’s work, from his stark minimalism to his masterful use of suspense and discomfort.
Through discussion and analysis of several films, we will unpack his commentary on both historical and modern societies, and his ability to blur the lines between art and ethics.
The day includes guided discussions, screenings of pivotal scenes, and contextual insights into Haneke’s influences and impact on European cinema, and how he aims to empower the spectator.
Whether you’re a seasoned cinephile or new to Haneke’s work, this course will deepen your appreciation of his artistry.
You must be 18 or over to attend.
