• Uncover the story - Plenty of hotels offer luxury accommodation, fine dining and pampering spa treatments but few also put on a season of West End-quality shows in their very own open-air theatre. This unique venue, alongside period style rooms and a fairy-tale log cabin, add a dramatic twist to a stay at Kilworth House Hotel.
The house was built in the late 19th century for the High Sheriff of Leicestershire, who would entertain the cream of Victorian society here.
Decades later it passed to the Snowdon family, with Susan Snowdon moving in her rock legend partner, Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi. After a short stint as flats, the house was restored to its former glory between 1999 and 2003, ready to make its debut as a 4-star hotel.
Luxury rooms put revered writers in the spotlight, with names including The Oscar Wilde, The Bronte and The Milton. All have unique features, some with separate dressing areas in which to perfect your look before making a grand entrance at dinner.
Dine in award-winning restaurant The Wordsworth with its showstopping chandeliers, or the Grade II listed, light-filled Victorian Orangery, where live jazz and theatrical shows often play beneath its elegant glass and wrought iron ceiling.
The show goes on outside, too, where water features perform a mesmerising dance in the peaceful courtyard, and rolling parkland gives way to an original Victorian ladies’ walking trail.
Stroll further to discover The Staging Post, a log cabin straight out of a Grimm’s fairy tale, blending into woodland that’s also home to Kilworth’s sparkling star, its open-air theatre. One of British theatre’s best-kept secrets, audiences sit spellbound beneath its sail-like canopy for balmy evenings of magical musical theatre, with blankets always available should the summer weather miss its cue.
