You asked and Leicester delivered, as the city is hosting its first dedicated Christmas Market in as long as any of us can remember! And we’re so excited to share some of their highlights with you.

The market runs the length of Gallowtree Gate and features 20 stalls selling gifts, sweet treats, hot chocolate, cheese, festive goodies and snacks and lots more besides! They’ve already made the High Street much more colourful and festive, and it has been fantastic to see so many people coming to sample their wares. We spoke to some of the vendors about their stalls and what they have to offer if you’re coming into the city.

German Sausages

Callum is serving up some fantastic festive sausages and is being kept really busy at the weekends.  Featuring all of your favourites including Bratwurst – the traditional German sausage, Krakauer – pork sausage with cheese and the much needed winter warmer chilli beef frankfurter. Callum tells us that their best seller is the Bratwurst and thanks to the massive demand, they’re getting through a sack full of huge Spanish onions each day!

The Christmas Stall

Overflowing with wreaths, trimmings, gifts and gonks, you’ll find Margo on the Christmas stall full of festive cheer. Their best sellers are the Christmas wreaths – the stall has already sold out of the love heart shaped wreaths and more stock is on its way! Their gonks are really popular – prices range from £4 to £40. Also new in stock are snow globes and light-up decorations. They’ll be open 9am till 7pm every day and staying open longer at the weekends if its busy.

Jewelyric

This beautiful array of sparkling jewellery is the perfect Christmas gift and Hasan has travelled all the way from Camden market in London to sell his wares to the people of Leicester! His best sellers are the dainty bracelets – lots of Christmas colours and variety of designs and they seem to be popular with both young and old. He’s open 10am till 7pm on weekdays and till 8pm at the weekends.

The Cheese Stall

It isn’t Christmas without cheese and on this stall you will find 14 different flavours all neatly wrapped in colourful wax rounds. Molly and George will be happy to share samples and talk about the choices on offer. Their best seller is Italiano – a flavoursome cheese with tomato and garlic – it’s a new flavour this year!  The other top seller is Gincello – gin and lemon cheese which is similar to a cheesecake in taste! Cheeses are £7 each or 4 for £25 and they are presented in a lovely giftbox. You’ll also find chutney and crackers to purchase with the cheese. They’re open 10am till 7pm each day and 11am till 5pm on Sundays

Sweet Stall

Brandon is Leicester Christmas Market’s “Festive Willy Wonka” and he has a vast array of sweets and fudge to tempt even the most resistant! The best sellers are the long ropes at £1 each or 6 for £5 for all the different flavours.  Most popular fudge is the very berry.

Leicester certainly has a sweet tooth so keeping Brandon busy from 10am till 7pm every day.

Gourmet Grill

Visit the Gourmet Grill stall for their best seller ‘Roast Pork and stuffing’ or ‘British pork sausages’ all served in a soft baguette with a choice of sauce and all available with tasty fried Spanish onions. Open Daily from 10am till 7pm

Hot Fresh Donuts

Packed with sweet treats and hot drinks, Brad, Jordon or John will be on hand to serve fresh donuts and crepes – it’s hard to resist when you smell them. Take your pick of toppings on your crepe or have it all for £5! 5 Fresh donuts are £4. All can be washed down with a Baileys hot chocolate. Open daily from 10am till 7pm

Desi Dhaba

Meet Saurabh at Desi Dhaba Indian Street Food stall with lots of tasty Indian snacks – choose from vegetable, chicken or lamb samosas, choice of spring rolls, pizza balls, onion bhajis and more. Soft drinks and Masala Tea are also served. All the options are popular and at 3 for £5 mix and match they are disappearing quickly. Open daily from 10am till 7pm

Turkish Craft - ceramics and handmade lamps

Meet Yalmaz at the stall full of gifts handmade with passion and love. There are wonderful insense smells and brightly coloured lamps – hanging or table lamps and candle holders all handmade in Turkey. Pick up some positive energy with your own eagle eye hanger or wish upon a star with a dream catcher. Beautiful handmade handbags and other leather goods. Open daily from 10am till 7pm.

Moroccan Leather Bags

Bags of every shape and size can be found here where Muhammad will be happy to help you find the right one for you. Complete your new look with a purse or wallet. Prices start from £10. Open daily from 10am till 7pm

Blankets and Throws

Get all wrapped up on this stall with a fantastic choice of snuggly blankets that will keep that winter chill at bay. All manner of patterns, pictures and colours to choose from starting from £5. This stall is a real winter warmer. Open daily from 10am till 7pm.

Jewellery

You can’t miss this wonderful array of shiny silver and gold coloured jewellery on this stall where you can pick up a new ring, necklace, pendant, earrings or bracelet for someone special. Look out for the watch rings! Prices start from £10 to £35 so lots of bargains to be found here. Open daily from 10am till 7pm.

Hats, Gloves and Scarves

Fancy wrapping up warm and cosy this winter? Then come and meet Andy who will help you pick out the perfect present. There is lots of choice here with mix and match offers on most items. The best sellers are blanket scarves at £10 each or 3 for £25. Ponchos are soft and cuddly and really popular for £29 each. Christmas scarves are £6 each or 4 for £20 and pick out a Christmas hat to go with it. Open daily from 10am till 7pm

Wood Carvings

If you love all things wood then this is the stall for you. Pick out something hand carved in Bali, from tiny festive robins to elephants and of course the Christmas ducks! Come and discover a very impressive dragon sculpture or pick out some new furniture. Check out the dream catchers, puppets and ducks. This huge selection has items for all budgets from £2 for a carved mouse right to £1500 for the impressive dragon! Open daily from 10am till 7pm.

Ali Marquee - The Crystal Stall

Ali will hep you boost your energy or find your serenity at this stall that offers crystals galore. Something for every mood and meaning is available for £3 each.  There are all sorts of ornaments, pendants and hats and spell out your name with the mini train letters on wheels.

Clothes and Sweaters

This stylish stall has all sorts or hats, gloves, jackets, scarves, jumpers and sweatshirts on offer. Hats are from £10 and jackets are from £50. You’ll be the best dressed person in Leicester if you stop by this stall and pick up some new items for your wardrobe. Open daily from 10am till 7pm.

Crafts Analais

Ponchos and jackets from Peru and Ecuador are so vibrant on this stall they are sure to catch your eye. All sizes available for kids to adults and Daqui who is running the stall will be happy to help find the perfect fit. Look out for the table of mini fluffy llamas and selection of jewellery, character bags and very cute ballerina mice!  Find something lovely from £3 to £50. Open daily from 10am till 7pm.

Giant Yorkshire Puddings and Traditional Christmas Dinner Stall

Its sausages galore here with chilli, pork & leek, Cumberland and traditional British bangers all served in a fresh baguette and fried Spanish onions. However, the real speciality here is the Yorkshire pudding wraps filled with chicken or pork, roast potatoes, veg and gravy. Yum! £8 each or omit the meat for a veggie treat for £7. Open daily from 10am till 7pm.
