About

Swithland Flower and Vegetable Show

The 46th annual show will be held on Saturday 7th September which, we are pleased to announce, will be opened at 1.45pm by television's 'The Great British Bake Off' finalist, Dr Josh Smalley.

Born in Leicestershire, Josh was runner up in the 2023 Great British Bake Off. He is also a keen gardener enjoying growing giant vegetables and at the 2022 and 2023 Swithland Shows, he won the Woodbrook Cup for the heaviest pumpkin! As well as opening this year's show, Josh has agreed to judge the heavily contested 'Chris Holloway Chocolate Cake Challenge'!

Since the show's inception 46 years ago, it has raised over £146,000 enabling huge donations to be made to LOROS, Rainbows and other local Charities, to help them continue to provide the valuable support they give to so many local people.

This traditional village show is a real family fun day out with lots to see and do including, from 12.30pm onwards, the Tombola and Plant Sales in the Griffin Inn courtyard along with music by the Quorn Ukulele Orchestra & others. At 2.00pm, following the judging, all the exhibits can be viewed in the marquee and school classrooms with the prize giving presentation taking place at 4.00pm in the Griffin Inn courtyard. The highlight of the show will, once again, be the popular and entertaining auction at 3.30pm. Raffle tickets are available now offering many wonderful prizes.

If you're up for a challenge, you might like to compete in the various Classes including Photography, Cookery, Arts and Crafts, Flower Arranging and the Gardening Section which offers many Classes for both serious and amateur gardeners alike. Classes for children of all ages are also available to enter. Cash prizes as well as trophies are keenly fought over each year.

Entries for all classes can be made between 8.30 and 11.00am on Saturday 7th September. Full details of all classes you can enter are listed in the official Show Schedule, (along with a full programme of event timings), which can be picked up from the Griffin Inn, Main Street, Swithland; several shops around the area or by emailing Rob McDonagh: rmcdonagh@hotmail.com who will also be able to provide you with raffle tickets.
Do come along and join in, whether you enter a class or not, there is something for everyone. For further information, please visit the Facebook page: www.facebook.com/SwithlandShow
