Watermead Country Park South

On the northern edge of Leicester, Watermead Country Park is a green oasis - a haven for wildlife and a peaceful stretch of countryside.

Running through the park is the River Soar and Grand Union Canal, which provide an essential corridor for wildlife as well as a route for pleasure, including boating, walking and watersports.

The park is great for nature lovers, walkers and families. Visitors can enjoy fine lake views and woodland walks with good paths, picnic and barbeque areas.

A life sized sculpture of a mammoth, inspired by the mammoth, bison and deer bones found on the parkland, overlooks the south of the park.

Watermead is easily accessible either on foot or by bicycle - the Sustrans long distance cycle route 6 and local route 1 cycle ways passes through the park.

There’s a selection of activities to get involved with on the park: fishing permits can be obtained on a daily or seasonal basis from on-site staff, Leicester Sailboarding club sail within the park, and the natural environment makes the park’s grounds a great place for bird and wildlife watching.
