Spirit to Matter - Alchemy in the Making
Explore a variety of mystical artworks that connect with the themes of transformation, memory, identity, spirituality, right in time to celebrate Diwali, Halloween, Black History Month and more.
Monday 28 October - Friday 22 November (open weekdays 11am - 5pm)
'Spirit to Matter - Alchemy in the Making' has been created and curated by artists Pasha Kincaid, Marianne Scahill-Pape, Raisa Watkiss and Shivani Khoshia along with local artists. The exhibition features artworks inspired by the theme of creativity as an alchemical process – art channelling ideas into form; art manifesting stories into culture; and reflecting the divine in humanity.
Visitors can expect to see a range of artworks in a variety of mediums including mixed media, paintings, printmaking, video, photography, animation, sculpture, performance and more linked to consciousness, memory, identity, perception, transformation and spiritual fulfilment.
This symbolic exhibition showcasing over 20 artists' work, along with related events and workshops will connect visitors to a range of themes and ideas from ancestral dreaming to connecting to nature and alternative futures. See the list below for related events, screenings and workshops.
Pasha Kincaid is the third artist to be commissioned by Vehicle Arts creative programme at LCB Depot between September and December. Pasha is an artist and arts activist who uses autoethnography (a research method that uses personal experiences to understand cultural, political and social meanings), to weave intergenerational experiences and narratives. Her installations and performances involve participation in dialogues, in deconstructing oppressions and in human connection.
