See the world in black and white with acclaimed artist Jenny Grevatte.
This course is aimed at experienced students looking for new challenges or anyone wishing to experiment and take risks to move their practice forward. Taking the limitation of only working in black and white, various problems will be explored, with tutor guidance at every stage.
All students should bring an A4 sketchbook, which will be used for recording and experimenting every week. Optional extra work will be set at the end of each session for students to do at home. Some ideas will be taken from the world around us and digital sources, and others will be led by instinct and mood. Some of the topics covered will be: experimental drawing, monochrome painting, mixing blacks and whites, gesture and mark making, tonal gradations, reductive collage and large, charcoal self-portraits. Artists we will refer to will include: Piet Mondrian, Pierre Soulages, Hans Hartung, Frank Auerbach, John Virtue and William Kentridge.
Tutor Jenny Grevatte is an established artist of international renown represented by the Goldmark Gallery in Uppingham. Her work is in national and international collections, including Leicester Museum and Art Gallery, the Women's Art Collection, Murray Hall, Cambridge and the Johannesburg National Museum.
