Gear up for an exhilarating weekend at our annual Spring Diesel Gala! This event is a highlight for diesel enthusiasts and families, offering the chance to ride behind both our impressive home fleet and visiting guest locomotives.
Visiting Locomotive - Class 20 D8001
Built in 1957, Class 20 D8001 was among the first of its kind, designed by English Electric for British Rail. Known as a 'Chopper' due to its distinctive engine sound, it played a key role in freight operations during the transition from steam to diesel. Now preserved, it remains a favourite among our heritage railway enthusiasts. It's the last appearance before D8001 returns to the Epping and Ongar Railway.
