CMYK - The 2025 Modern Painters

Modern Painters, New Decorators is pleased to announce CMYK, the 2025 Annual Members Exhibition, hosted at Tangent Gallery. This year’s show turns its focus to printmaking — not only as a technique, but as a method of exchange and experimentation, rooted in repetition. Opening as part of Lboro Lates on Friday 23rd May (6–9pm), the exhibition runs until Saturday 7th June, open Thursday to Saturday each week.

The title CMYK refers to the four foundational colours of printing — Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Key (Black) — and serves as both a literal and conceptual starting point for the exhibition. Through screen printing, etching, linocut, and experimental techniques, the exhibition explores how printmaking continues to intersect with a wide range of contemporary practices in new and unexpected ways — from painting and performance to textiles, installation, and digital media.

Tangent Gallery, run by Studio at 17 — a longstanding collective supporting artists with lived experience of long-term mental ill health — provides a meaningful setting for this year’s show. Studio at 17 has supported artists for over 30 years, and is home to a vibrant creative community, including Leicester graffiti icon Paul Dexter aka Caper. The intimate space, next door to an active artist studio, offers a unique context for work that reflects both process and shared creative experience.

The exhibition will open during Lboro Lates on Friday 23 May, 6–9pm, and will remain open Thursday to Saturday until 7 June. The exhibition features work by members of Modern Painters, New Decorators — a growing network of artists based in and around Loughborough, working across disciplines and career stages. Visitors can expect a dynamic cross-section of print-based practices by emerging and established artists within the Modern Painters, New Decorators membership.

Modern Painters, New Decorators is an artist-led organisation based in Loughborough. In September 2025, we’ll reopen in a new home on Aumberry Gap — a dedicated creative space for exhibitions, events, and artist development in the heart of the town.
