Want to learn to crochet? Why not join this four week course for complete beginners to give you the confidence to use a pattern and start your first crochet creation.

In week one you will receive everything you will need to get you started including a ball of yarn, crochet hook and a few other goodies, plus weekly worksheets to enable you to practice at home between sessions.

WEEK 1:

Learn about hooks, yarn weights and yarn packaging

How to hold the hook and yarn

Create a foundation chain

Learn the double crochet stitch

Fasten off your work

WEEK 2:

Practice chain and double from last week

Learn new stitches - half treble, treble and double treble

WEEK 3:

Joining yarn, weaving in ends and seaming

Understanding abbreviation and instructions

Mesh pattern

WEEK 4:

Making a ring

Working in a spiral

Working in joined rounds

Making granny squares

Tutor Bonita Keay is a passionate crafter and always says making is part of who she is! She started her handmade business journey in 2007 when her children were small and now sells regularly at craft fairs (including our Attenborough Arts Centre fairs!). Bonita is also an experienced tutor, sharing her knowledge, skills and passion with adults and young people, inspiring creativity and wellbeing wherever she goes.

She sources all materials ethically and sustainably, supporting other small businesses where possible.

This four week course will run on Wednesday evenings, 6-8pm, starting on Wednesday 19 March and ending on 9 April 2025.

Recommended for ages 14+. Under 18s must be accompanied by a paying adult at all times.

We aim to make all our sessions as accessible as possible and carers/PAs are very welcome - just remember to book their free place when you book your session. If you'd like to talk to us in advance of booking or attending your sessions to discuss your access needs, our Box Office team is here to help! Email, pop in or call, open 7 days a week.

We have four blue badge parking spaces outside Attenborough Arts Centre, plus double yellow line roadside parking very close to the building for blue badge holders for up to three hours if our parking spaces are occupied.

Free parking for all customers is available after 5pm on weekdays and all day at weekends in the university of Leicester car park next door to Attenborough arts centre on Lancaster road.

The closest public car park for parking at all other times is Victoria Park, 5-10 minutes walk from us.
