The Sue Townsend theatre is an iconic city venue, opened in 1963.
Formerly known as the Phoenix, the theatre was renamed in 2015 to honour Leicester author Sue Townsend. This is where Sue began her writing career, creating her first award-winning play as writer in residence.
The theatre has a rich history in the performing arts and a stellar cast of British actors have performed here. The venue is regularly used as a performance venue by local and national arts, music, theatre and dance companies, and it is also a teaching site of Leicester College's performing arts and music and sound technology teams.
