Leicester Museum & Art Gallery, Leicester's original museum on the historic New Walk, has wide ranging collections and displays spanning the natural and cultural world
A family friendly day out, the galleries include Dinosaurs, Leicester Stories, Wild Space, The Den gallery for the under 5s, the Victorian art gallery, Arts & Crafts gallery, Picasso Ceramics: The Attenborough Collection and modern and contemporary art displays. The first floor galleries include Ancient Egypt and Leicester's internationally renowned collection of German Expressionism.
The museum welcomes a vast array of temporary exhibitions, featuring works from the collections, touring exhibitions from national museums and a programme of contemporary art and craft displays.
The museum hosts a range of events from curators' talks to lunchtime concerts. Tours of the museum are also available for groups – please contact the museum for further details. Visit the gift shop to buy a range of exhibition merchandise and contemporary crafts, or pop by the the Costa coffee shop to recharge with free wifi.
The building is also licensed for weddings, civil ceremonies, renewal of wedding vows, naming ceremonies and private hire.

As part of a major capital investment in Leicester Museum & Art Gallery, ther is currently work to create a range of new galleries.
The Wild Space gallery has now closed. The ground floor art galleries and the Den will close on 1st September 2024. From Thursday 5th September 2024 to Sunday 15th September 2024 inclusive, the museum will be closed to visitors due to an initial piece of maintenance work.
The Museum will reopen on Monday 16th September 2024, but access will be limited to the Dinosaur and Leicester Stories galleries between 16th September and 20th September while we install new temporary exhibitions on the first floor.
Access to the Ancient Egypt and German Expressionism galleries will reopen on Saturday 21st September.
