A fantastic FREE night time festival, bringing lights, creativity and family fun to Leicester city centre is coming back this March and we’ve got all the details.
We cannot wait for Light Up Leicester, bringing large scale light installations, performances and parades to the city from 12-15 March. Aimed at families and showcasing some fantastic illuminated creations, Leicester city centre will come alive after dark!
This completely free festival celebrates community, creativity, and connection, transforming the streets into a glowing celebration of art and culture.

Installations
Evanescent by Atelier Sisu
Jubilee Square
An immersive, light and sound temporary environment that aims to capture the idea of the fleeting and quickly vanishing in a visual form: the bubble.
Hulahoop By Collectif Scale, with music by Grégory Sémah
High Street
Hulahoop moves in a mesmerising and hypnotising ballet of lights. A series of geometric patterns orchestrated to music, flowing in harmony with sound waves.
Double Flux By Collectif Scale, with music by Grégory Sémah
Bath House Lane
Moving lines of light shift and pulse in harmony with music, from flowing waves to energetic bursts.

Market Street
Giant tripods with rotating speakers create orbits of sound and light in this stunning new collaboration between Ray Lee and Darbar Artsm, with a fusion of Western classical minimalism and south Indian music.

From King Richard III’s legacy to Leicester’s vibrant culture, this dazzling illumination on the outside of the Cathedral celebrates the stories and spirit that make the city unique.

Glowing, inflatable nocturnal animals adorned with intricate mandala patterns; these illuminated masterpieces celebrate the beauty of the wild and the night.

Explore the deep roots of our incredible city and the tree that connects our diverse communities. Formed after the Children's Parade and featuring over 300 local school children.

This year there are some fantastic events that you will not want to miss. While the installations will be there throughout, these are only happening at the specific times.
The Roots of Our Tree: Children's Parade By Inspirate
Wednesday 12 March, 11am – King Richard III Visitor Centre
A large-scale community procession to open the festival! Bringing together over 300 young people, culminating in a majestic installation that will light up the Richard III Visitor Centre.
Radiant Routes: Opening parade By Nupur Arts
Wednesday 12 March, 6pm
Featuring dancers in luminous, light-up costumes, this procession will move through the streets of Leicester to Leicester Cathedral where a grand performance from Nupur Arts showcases the beauty of South Asian dance.
Illuminated Bike Parade By Ride Leicester
Thursday 13 March, 6.30-8.30pm
Join a dazzling procession of riders as they brighten up the city. People of all ages are invited to join the ride and experience the city in a whole new light.
Pop-Up Performances By various artists
Friday 14 & Saturday 15 March, from 7pm
Dazzling LED performers, glowing Globots, towering illuminated Dry Bones skeletons, and underwater wonders of Aquanauts Adrift wander the city centre.
The Holi Experience By Nupur Arts
Clocktower. Friday 14 March, 6:30pm & 7:30pm
A joyful and colourful extravaganza inspired by the Hindu festival of Holi. Please note, powdered colour is used during the Holi Experience which is thrown into the air.
Festival finale: Fiers à Cheval By Compagnie Des Quidams
From New Walk to The Circle, Saturday 15 March, 7pm
An unmissable and magical experience led by performers from Compagnie Des Quidams, as they journey from New Walk to The Circle, bringing the festival to a spectacular close.
Take a tour of Light Up Leicester
Rickshaw Rides
12, 14 & 15 March between 6-8pm.
Hop aboard a rickshaw and experience the festival in a whole new light! Glide through the glowing streets of Leicester, taking in the dazzling artworks from a unique perspective.

Walking Tours
Wednesday 12 & Friday 14 March, times TBC.
Discover the magic of Light Up Leicester and get a closer look at the festival’s stunning installations and performances by foot.

Cycle Tours
12-15 March. From Town Hall Square, between 5.30-8.30pm.
Hop on your bike and join a free, guided bike ride tour of the festival’s dazzling artworks!
