This year there’s a new addition to Leicestershire’s cultural calendar, running throughout June, it’s the inaugural Nevill Holt Festival and we’ve got a very special offer for Visit Leicester followers.

Building on a decade of opera performances, the Festival will now also host classical music, theatre, art, jazz and contemporary music, alongside conversations with leading novelists, historians, broadcasters and artists. This is looking like a Leicestershire answer to the famous Hay Literary Festival.

From 1- 26 June the festival will be taking over the beautiful Nevill Holt Estate. Around 20 miles from Leicester (and not far from Market Harborough), it’s an idyllic setting with spectacular views across three counties plus breathtaking gardens with sculpture trail, and mouth-watering British BBQ.

A line up of household names

The amazing line-up includes household names including:

  • Comedy from Mark Watson, Seann Walsh, and Jason Byrne
  • Authors, actors and podcasters Alice Roberts, Kristin Scott Thomas, Elizabeth Day, Andrew Marr, Michael Morpurgo, and Rachel Johnson
  • Cricketing stories with Jonathan Agnew and Phil Tuffnell
  • Classical music including Vivaldi’s much-loved Four Seasons, and recitals from Benjamin Grosvenor, Jeneba Kanneh-Mason, Sarah Connolly & Imogen Cooper;
  • Lots more music from Alexis Ffrench, Jalen Ngonda, Jordan Mackampa, and Ronnie Scott’s jazz

An amazing venue

So some of the most recognisable names out there, but also an outstanding venue to enjoy them in. The Nevill Holt estate dates back to the 13th century and has long been a home for the arts. Throughout its history, the estate's many famous owners have championed the arts, from the Kirkby and Nevill families to the Cunards and now its current owner David Ross, who spent 12 years on the estate's restoration.

With breath-taking panoramic views from the gardens, their award winning theatre hosted in a converted barn (but that doesn’t do it justice by a long shot) is surrounded by stunning gardens designed by Chelsea gold medal winner Rupert Golby and managed by Head Gardener Andy Bretherick.

Visitors can also enjoy outstanding pieces of modern British sculpture throughout the gardens, including works by Antony Gormley, Rachel Whiteread, Allen Jones, Marc Quinn, Conrad Shawcross and Sean Henry.
