The line up for the 2024 Leicester Comedy Festival has just been released and it is packed full of household names, the best new comedians and shows that will have your sides aching.
The Leicester Comedy Festival is Europe’s biggest and longest-running comedy festival and the 21st edition will be bigger and better than ever, with 708 shows currently registered, 12% more than 2023’s festival. The Festival takes in venues in the city and around the county, and cements Leicester’s reputation as a hot spot for comedy, and one of the major events on the international comedy circuit.
The Leicester Comedy Festival 2024 will feature comedians including Stewart Lee, Ross Noble, Catherine Bohart, Kieran Hodgson, Sikisa, Daniel Sloss, Eshaan Akbar, Garth Marenghi, Sophie Duker & Ania Magliano. We can’t wait to see Leicester’s venues packed with fun and laughter during the three weeks in February.
Just a few of the highlights include Sindhu Vee hosting the Gala Preview Show on 12 January at De Montfort Hall and Kiri Pritchard-Mclean hosting Get Off Comedy Fundraiser on 8 February at the Y Theatre. Myra Dubois will host the fundraiser event Live at De Montfort Hall on 16 February. Comedy Festival Founder Geoff Rowe returns with a new series of in-depth discussions with comedians, in aid of Big Difference Company, and this year with a special fundraiser for Warning Zone, a Leicester based Charity dedicated to teaching life skills and safeguarding children. And Jason Byrne returns to host the ever popular UK Pun Championships on 12 February.
Running alongside all of this is the UK Kids’ Comedy Festival, which is will be packed with events aimed at children and young people. Younger audiences will have the chance to see a mix of big names in kids comedy, including Marcel Lucont, The Dark Room, Shelf, Jarred Christmas performing with world champion beatboxer Hobbit, as well as special events such as Loving Laughing, where Big Difference will present the award for the Funniest school in Leicestershire. The Kids Gala Preview, hosted by Bec Hill is on 3rd December at The Y.
The Festival is run by Big Difference, the local charity which grew from the Comedy Festival and continues to bring well-known acts to Leicester as well as shining a light on the future generation of comedians, working with communities both young and old, and cultivating laughter and comedy in people’s hearts.
Charlotte Laidet, festivals and programme director at Big Difference said: “We are so happy to be back in 2024 with our biggest festivals ever, and an incredible programme of events for everyone. In these especially difficult times for the hospitality and cultural sectors, it is really important and rewarding for us to see the support and trust from all our venues, promoters and partners, and of course all the acts taking part in the festivals. We are looking forward to bringing more laughter and well-being in Leicester and Leicestershire in February.”
