On Saturday 6 May, the country will come to a standstill to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III. This is an event which hasn’t been seen for 70 years and will take place in Westminster Abbey. The Coronation is a solemn occasion which will begin at 11am on the day and will be followed by a parade through the streets of London and celebrations across the country. While many venues may be closing to view the coronation, many will be throwing open their doors so that people can celebrate the crowning of King Charles.
It will be a weekend of celebrations with many communities holding street parties and celebrating alongside their neighbours and families. Take a look below as we run down some of the fun activities and events taking place on the long weekend.
Watch the Coronation on DMU’s big screen
As they have the biggest outdoor screen in the city, De Montfort University will be hosting a special viewing of the Coronation on their campus. So come along, bring a deckchair and celebrate with Leicester as the new King is crowned.
Belvoir Castle

It will be a celebration to remember – complete with plenty of bunting, of course! Across the weekend there will be a ‘Best Dressed’ competition so come dressed to the nines! They will also be looking out for the ‘Best Dressed’ pup too, simply enter on the day by posting a photo of yourself outside the Castle with #BelvoirBestDressed – the winner will receive a Friends of Belvoir pass.
