It’s one of the best children’s art festivals in the world and it’s coming back to Leicester from the 7 to the 13 February. The Spark Festival is run by Spark Arts, a registered charity which aims to give children opportunities to immerse themselves in the arts. They offer children spaces to discover their own skills, passions and potential.

The festival is run alongside a whole host of partners around the city and offers unforgettable experiences for kids aged up to 13. Whether it’s dance, theatre, music, creative arts, the festival has something for everyone, and loads of opportunities for you and your whole family to get involved.

You can experience professional performances in schools or in venues, hands-on workshops giving your kids the chance to learn something new or free drop-in sessions across city venues, community centres and libraries. There are so many different ways to get involved with the Spark Festival.

If you’re looking for some great family theatre then there’s loads to choose from. Duckie is a reimagining of Hans Christian Andersen’s The Ugly Duckling with a message of tolerance and self acceptance. It is showing at the Attenborough Arts Centre.

Then at Curve, Meal One is an enchanting musical fairy tale adapted from the much loved children's book by Ivor Cutler and Helen Oxenbury. Featuring augmented reality, follow Helbert and his mum as the explore the most amazing tree house playground!

If you’re fancy getting moving with some music and dance, then there are some great performances to enjoy. Also at Curve, Josephine is full of Harlem-inspired music, amazing toe tapping dances and a show packed full of historical figures as you discover the story of a girl who broke the mould as a dancer, activist, spy and mother.

Then at Attenborough Arts, Mmmm Ahhh Whoosh will toddlers on a musical journey through afro-centric folk, jazz and scat, combining music and animation to celebrate the wondrous world of the language of children.

At the Y Theatre a fantastic performance by multi-award winning band Don Kipper will take you on a musical adventure around Eastern Europe and the Mediterranean. Suitable for all ages, there will be surprises and a radical fusion of rhythm, harmony and imagination at this special performance for all the family.
