A Show Stopping Christmas in Leicester
The countdown to Christmas is on and with that in mind you might be thinking of what to see and do over the festive period. When it comes to Christmas theatre, Leicester really is the place to be. The city boasts six active theatres each with a unique offer, so there is something for everyone.
Inspired by Shakespeare’s classic tragedy Romeo and Juliet, West Side Story is bought to life on stage this Christmas at the Curve theatre. Experience the show’s timeless score including America, I Feel Pretty, Tonight and Something’s Coming. It’s the story of Tony, founding member of the White-American Jets and Maria, the sister of Bernado, leader of the Puerto Rican Sharks. Amidst the danger their love story poses, the two young lovers continue their relationship in secret. West Side Story is full of drama, passion, iconic musical hits and spectacular choreography accompanied by a 15-piece orchestra. (27 November-11 January)
Forget Fee Fi Fo Fum…more like Fee Fi Fo Fun! If you don’t know where that line comes from, you must have your head in the clouds…like Jack! The team behind the 2018 five-star smash hit Beauty and the Beast are back with Jack and the Beanstalk boasting a fantastic musical score, crazy costumes and larger than life characters that will have you splitting your sides laughing.
Follow the story of Jack and Dame Trott and discover if Jack can get his head out of the clouds for long enough. (23 November-5 January)
If you have children, you’re sure to have heard of Giraffes Can’t Dance. The brilliant book by Giles Andreae and Guy Parker- Rees will be coming to life on stage at the Curve theatre. Watch the cute story of Gerald the Giraffe, the giraffe who wants to go to the great Jungle Dance. One problem stands in his way…he can’t dance! Everyone knows giraffes can’t dance…but with a little help from a wise and kind cricket, Gerald soon finds his rhythm. It’s the perfect show for young children, who will be encouraged to dance to their own tune. (9 December-31 December)
Another sensational show comes to the Peepul Enterprise this festive season. Beauty and the Beast is coming to the Peepul Enterprise and offers something for everyone and is the perfect show to put you in the festive mood.

You’re invited to the depths of Sherwood Forest and the world of Robin Hood which comes to The Little Theatre. Watch out for the evil witch! “She’s behind you” “Oh no she isn’t"…sorry we just couldn’t resist the expected and much-loved pantomime one liners! Back to Robin Hood and his merry men as they stomp around the witches’ native home much to her fury. So much so she makes a deal with the unpopular Sherriff of Nottingham to rid Sherwood of anyone wearing green a la Robin Hood. Follow his mission as he retaliates and rescues Maid Marian from the Sheriff’s hostile intentions.

Join a star-studded show including everything you’d expect from a traditional pantomime and more…laughter, songs, fun, baddies, silliness and of course plenty of custard pies. Aladdin stars X Factor Sam Bailey and popstar Antony Costa from Blue, as well as Channel 5 Milkshake! Presenter Nathan Connor, BBC Radio Leicester’s Martin Ballard, Paul Burling from Britain’s Got Talent and magicians Matthew Pomeroy and Natasha Lamb. We told you it was star-studded! Caboodle are back at the Y Theatre with the 2019 Christmas pantomime. Join Jack and his mum, Dame Trott as they attempt to come up with ways to pay the greedy Mr Nick Alott and stop themselves from being thrown out in Jack’s Giant adventure. Guaranteed to be full of fun, energy and original music. It’s suitable for pre-school and primary children and their families. (21 December)
