This year features a street art programme themed ‘Out of this World’ to mark the 50th anniversary of the Apollo Moon landings in July 1969. There’s something slightly different this year which we can’t wait for…Comedy in the Dome!
If you’ve ventured down to Jubilee Square you might already have seen the construction of the huge transparent Dome and the focal point for Comedy in the Dome. Big Difference Co in association with City Festival presents Comedy in the Dome and kicks off on Thursday 22 August. It features a whole host of comedy acts hosted by Jason Neale. Look out for Rob Coleman, Jack Topher, Lucy Thompson (Best Show Leicester Comedy Festival Nominee 2017) Jack Campbell (English Comedian of the Year 2014) and Matt Hollins (Winner of the Leicester Mercury Comedian of the year 2004). Tickets are priced at £6 in advance and £8 on the door and available from gigantic.com/leicester-city-festival-tickets with doors opening at 6.30pm.
Comedy in the Dome featuring Lloyd Griffith follows straight after and will be the second showcase of the night. It will be hosted by Carly Smallman with acts including Robert White (Runner-up in Britain’s Got Talent 2018) Dan Nightingale (Best MC at the UK Comedy Awards 2015 and Nominated Best Act at Midlands Comedy Awards 2016) and Lloyd Griffith of Soccer AM. Tickets are available £12 in advance and £15 on the door.
The final day of Comedy in the Dome features Dane Baptiste on Saturday 24th August. It will be hosted by Carly Smallman including acts Scott Bennett (Midlands Comedy Awards Best Live Show 2016) Naomi Cooper and Dane Baptiste. Dane Baptiste is the first black British act to be nominated for a Comedy Award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, so definitely something to look forward to.
Don’t forget the Comedy in the Dome is part of the City Festival so if you want to find out about the other events happening in and around the city check out the 2019 City Festival Brochure
