Out with the old and in with the new as we bid farewell to 2018 and welcome 2019. It’s the time of the year where we all take stock to reflect on another year gone by and commit to New Year’s resolutions. Most will be focused on eating more healthily, drinking less and getting in shape. Wow…that’s a lot of promises to keep, but not to worry as we have plenty of ideas to help you stick to your resolutions at the same time as experiencing the highlights in Leicester throughout the month of January.

It’s not as difficult as you might think with plenty of bars offering non-alcoholic alternatives in Leicester, so you won’t feel like you’re missing out.

If you’re the type of person who can’t commit to the gym don’t worry, as there is so much to do around Leicester to encourage you to get fit and all without a gym membership in sight.
How about a Parkrun which take place at parks across the city including Braunstone and Victoria Parks? Every Saturday at 9am runners across the city take part in a 5km run. Now that’s the prefect way to start your weekend! Or if you’d much prefer a family run, take the kids to Aylestone Park at 9am Sunday morning.
If running is too strenuous and you’re looking for a more leisurely way to get fit, perhaps a walk in one of the scenic parks across Leicester and Leicestershire is more your thing! Abbey Park, Bradgate Park and Leicester’s riverside offer breath-taking views with a little pinch of peace and tranquillity – what better way for a fresh new start!
If cycling is more your thing Leicester has plenty to offer. Leicester Cycle Circuit offers riders of all ages and ability the opportunity to learn to ride, train and race at a purpose-built facility.
With all these activities we’re not sure you’ll have time to shop, but how could we end this article without a round-up of the best places to bag a bargain or two in Leicester. We’ve got it all from well-known high street retailers like John Lewis, Apple, Debenhams, Pandora and the newly opened Zara at the High Cross. A few steps away at the Haymarket Shopping Centre you’ll find names like H&M, TK Maxx and The Entertainer. If you’re looking for a more leisurely way to shop why not stroll over to The Lanes and the independent shops of St. Martin’s Square.
