Leicester's Best Cocktails

It’s never easy to choose your favourites when there are so many superb options out there! Our list is by no means a definitive one, and we’d love to hear from you on what you think are the best cocktails in Leicester.

This subtle twist on an absolute classic is definitely one of our favourites. The drink is affectionately named after the “Old John” tower, built in the late 18^th century atop the highest point in Bradgate Park.

It is comprised of Wild Turkey Bourbon, an international staple distilled in the USA, alongside Cank Street’s own cherry liqueur, house bitters, and a luxurious marshmallow porter syrup, served out of a flour bag, which when opened reveals a puff of spiced oak smoke. To round it all off, the drink is served over a piece of frozen slate, sourced from… you guessed it: Bradgate Park.

This gorgeous drink is perhaps a little more suited for a summer’s day, best enjoyed while sat outside basking in the rays. Nonetheless, this delicious, fresh blend of flavours means that whatever the weather, you’ll get to enjoy a cocktail that takes you away to a warmer, happier place. Then it’s all over, and time for another one.

There’s a reason it is Manhattan’s best-selling cocktail, with locally sourced fresh strawberries, basil syrup made in-house, Hendricks Gin, cranberry juice and a dash of fresh citrus. Fresh, elegant, delicious; what’s not to love?

Who doesn’t enjoy a bit of customer participation? This experimental twist on the classic mojito places you in the driver’s seat. At the risk of giving the surprise away, this cocktail’s name should tell you all you need to know about Turkey Café’s ‘laboratory’ style beverage.

Although it may look a little daunting, the drink is made up of (some) familiar ingredients. The main spirits are Bacardi Superior Rum, Velvet Felernum Liqueur with fresh mint, served alongside lime juice and Butterfly Pea sugar syrup. This adds up to not only a curious experience, but a well-balanced and luscious cocktail.

Picking the best cocktail at the Gadabout is far from an easy task: their newly updated menu includes some absolutely incredible flavour combinations. So maybe it’s best to choose something a little different? This extravagant offering pays homage to Iceland’s prohibition era, when bathtub brewing was the only creative workaround for those looking for a tipple.

This concoction is served in a miniature bathtub, filled with Iceland’s finest Reyka Vodka, Mandarine Liqueur, Lejay Crème de Cassis, and Farigoule Liqueur, finished with a succulent jasmine tea syrup. This one is not for the faint of heart, and we’d recommend bringing at least two friends along if you’re tempted to give it a try.
