Manor Organic Farm produces top quality Organic food, raises happy and healthy free-range animals and is a shining example of how farmers are rising to meet the challenges of the 21st century.

Manor Farm is a small family farm that has been serving the local community for 35 years, and was awarded the Airbnb Most Sustainable Stay 2023. The team behind the farm have a philosophy built on organic farming, animal welfare, renewable energy and GM-free products.

Tucked away in the village of Long Whatton, the on-site farm shop and bakery sells their own Soil Association accredited organic produce, and a wide range of other local organic food, all powered by solar energy and bio-mass heating. Their animals have a 100% GM-free, organic grass diet and are free-range, happy and healthy – no chemicals, no cages and the highest standards.

The Farm is part of a Higher-Level Environmental Stewardship scheme which includes restoring wild flower meadows and traditional grasslands. Since 1995 they have planted over 1,800 trees and restored more than two miles of hedgerow. Annual inspections by the Soil Association certify the farm as organic and ensures they uphold the best standards of animal welfare.

For those looking for a guilt free time away, the award-winning on-site Airbnb is powered by solar energy, with EV-Charging and re-fillable consumables, all available in the farm shop. If you’re looking to go wilder, then why not try their seasonal off-grid camping, where visitors can enjoy the peace and beauty of the organic farmland.

They believe that organic farming is a positive philosophy and is more than just avoiding the use of artificial chemicals and fertilisers. It is a sustainable approach to farming which views the farm as a whole system working in harmony with the natural surroundings and nature itself as well as the local community.

The team also work to promote this ethos and educate the community, holding open days throughout the year. They also host school visits at no charge to the school, giving back to the community and ensuring that sustainable education is accessible and inclusive.

As people become more conscious about food ingredients, provenance and the environment, the farm has been able to attract a loyal customer base. The farm shop has been certified organic for its entire 26 years, their diversified sustainable businesses and sustainable Airbnb award giving customers confidence that they are all-in, not just jumping on a bandwagon trend.

Manor Farm Owner Amy Matravers

“Manor has been an organic farm for over 30 years. We began this as we wanted to farm in a nature friendly way. This soon evolved to starting the organic farm shop to give local people easy access to wholesome sustainable food. This emphasis on sustainability extends to our farm buildings being covered in solar panels, a biomass boiler for heating and an emphasis on British breeds of livestock.”
