The Yamabiko calls…
Will you answer?
An exciting evening of encapsulating drumming awaits, celebrating the energy and creativity of the mischievous Japanese yokai – the yamabiko.
According to Japanese folklore, the yamabiko is a spirit which inhabits mountains, echoing the calls made across the valley. When you shout across the mountain and the echo takes on a life of its own, it is the yamabiko mimicking your call.
With over three decades of drumming experience between them, this young taiko group have put together their first complete stage show and want to share the love they have for taiko with you. The performance is energetic and dynamic, with meditative, introspective moments that allow the audience to appreciate the versatility of these reverberant drums.
Come and join Yamabiko at the Sue Townsend theatre and share in traditional Japanese rhythms, alongside new creations, in celebration of this wonderful artform.
Approximate run time 90 minutes including an interval.
