Ashby de la Zouch 

The charming town of Ashby de la Zouch offers a variety of things to do and see, with its many  cafes, restaurants, boutique shopping and not to mention North’s Deli Patisserie café. This family-run business offers a delicious range of handmade products from cakes, cheeses, charcuterie and breads. Eat in and enjoy the ambience of being in the heart of the town or opt for a takeout picnic to enjoy at the nearby Bath Grounds or the historic Ashby Castle, part of English Heritage.  

Lil Bo’s married couple team is another go-to Deli situated in one of the towns quaint mews, offering a hearty breakfast, lunch and locally sourced products for a delicious takeout picnic.  

If you want somewhere to eat in the evening the town there are a whole host of restaurants from the family run Zamani’s Italian restaurant and wine bar, Hispania Spanish Restaurant serving up simple dishes full of mediterranean flavours, the Centivo Lounge or a Thai or Indian restaurant.  

If you’re craving sweet treats, then Indulgent Chocolates handmade chocolate shop caters for all ages and all budgets. Check out the unique events and chocolate workshops. Also worth a visit are two dedicated dessert shops, Cravings and the Dessert Hut. The Tap at No. 76 will quench your thirst with a selection of home brewed ales in a dog-friendly setting. Regular special street food events throughout the year. 

Just outside the town is Charnwood Forest Alpacas who offer a date night with a difference. Enjoy Prosecco, scones, jam and cream with a loved one and get up close and friendly with the alpacas as you watch the sun go down surrounded by fantastic countryside views. Hicks Lodge offers excellent cycling routes and walking trails with an onsite Grounds café brewing signature coffee, soups, sandwiches and cakes. 


Coalville  

Come and discover Mount St Bernard Abbey, home to the only Trappist brewery in the country. Tynt Meadow ale is brewed on-site and you can get it direct from the Abbey shops along with other locally sourced food and drink. Take in the tranquillity of the setting and the slower pace of life around the Abbey and nearby walking trails. 

St Joseph’s Tearooms is just a short walk down the road and offers a range of breakfasts and lunches in a beautiful setting. After a bit more activity visit the historic award-winning Snibston Colliery Park & Grounds Café and explore the nature reserve, playground and onsite theatre.  

Head into the town of Coalville and visit Newmarket for delicious homemade sweet treats from The Handmade Brownie Company. Visit La Torre for authentic Italian cuisine and Imge for Turkish Mediterranean dishes. 

The Rock Bar & Café just outside the town offers the unique experience of a self-service beer wall. Head further out of town towards Whitwick and you’ll come across The Man Within Compass real ale pub which regularly hosts street food events. Set in beautiful countryside and close to several walking trials. 


Castle Donington 

The quaint town of Castle Donington is waiting to welcome you with the award winning Orissa Indian restaurant, a parade of independent shops, cafes and restaurants. The popular award winning No.11 Deli is open for breakfast and lunch take outs. 

Visit the Castle Donington Museum and the Priest House Hotel by the river which boasts a history that can be traced back 1,000 years, offering fine and casual dining and a place to stay. 

Heading back towards Ashby you will come across the charming village of Breedon on the Hill with stunning views from St Mary and St Hardulph Priory church. The Three Horseshoes pub is listed in the Michelin guide and offers an excellent restaurant menu, and is home to a handmade chocolate shop operated by Bittersweet Chocolates, who offer private parties and chocolate heaven workshops. And finally, the Holly Bush is a traditional inn dating back to the 1600’s offers a warm welcome and hearty classic pub food. 


Kegworth 

In the heart of Kegworth town centre is the popular Oaklands bakers and butchers. Selling a variety of freshly made bread, cakes and locally sourced meats. Pick up breakfast, lunch or a picnic and check out The Yard at Oaklands at the weekends which features an outdoor eatery and bar. 

The Plough Inn at nearby Diseworth is a 16th century cozy village pub and restaurant with an open fire place, beams and beautiful outdoor garden. Also known for its well-kept cask ales. The Falcon Inn Long Whatton is a beautiful pub and hotel renowned for food made from locally sourced ingredients. Its large beer garden has attractive seating and an outside bar. The Royal Oak Long Whatton is a dining pub with rooms and an AA Rosette award. You will find a classic pub fare menu with additional seasonal specials.

Manor Organic Farm Long Whatton is a family-run organic farm with farm shop selling locally sourced organic meat, an onsite organic bakery, and dog freedom field. Winner of 2023 Airbnb Most Sustainable Stay for The Parlour a self-catering retreat for two people plus a dog. 


Staunton Harold & Newbold Coleorton 

Staunton Harold Estate is a 2,000 acre estate privately owned, managed and funded by the Blunt Family. The Ferrers Centre Courtyard is an award-winning arts and crafts centre including nationally renowned textile, metal and ceramics artists. The Staunton Deli sells artisan breads and cakes with other locally sourced products. The Stables coffee shop serves ethically sourced coffee and delicious meals. Or the Peach House restaurant in the Staunton Harold Nurseries & Garden Centre hosts a diverse menu of homemade dishes. Then explore some of the best walking and cycling trails in the area

Just down the road by the farm gate you will find Dumelow’s Dairy with its quaint milk shed offering fresh unpasteurised unhomogenised milk straight from the cow to a vending machine.  

The Milking Parlour is a brewery tap on the National Trust’s Calke Abbey Estate, hosting food and drink events throughout the year. Their wood-fired pizzas are amazing. Walking trials all around here with fantastic views across the counties.  

Just a short distance back towards Ashby, Newbold Coleorton is a small hamlet with an awful lot going on. Field Sport UK was nominated for the 2024 Visit England Tourism Superstar award and is a family-run outdoor activity centre with loads of fun activities on offer. 

Nearby is the Wellie Deli a community-focused coffee shop which is hugely popular with walkers, dog owners, and cyclists. It also has a small French boutique shop on site. Walk on from here to the beautiful Lount Nature Reserve


Heather & Ibstock 

Cattows Farm hosts major events through the year and have their own tea room and restaurant, plus farm shop with locally sourced products including locally made honey, pick your own seasonal fruit and vegetables. Surrounded by beautiful countryside and woodland walks.  

Just on the outskirts of Ibstock is the stylish Gracie Jayne’s houseware and gift shop and coffee shop Minnie’s serving lunches, cakes and brownies.
