But there’s more to this region than just food! The town of Melton itself is full of history, with a royal heritage that goes back to Richard the Lionheart! And this royal tradition continues in the Vale of Belvoir, where the picture perfect Belvoir Castle was chosen to represent Windsor Castle in Netflix’s hit series “The Crown”.
It was also where the phrase “painting the town red” originated, thanks to the region’s well deserved tradition for locally produced drinks, which continues to this day. While we’re talking about the food and drink… Melton is home to some of the very best food you can find in the UK. Stilton and Red Leicester cheese, and of course the delicious Melton Mowbray pork pies. There are also some incredible restaurants selling some of the very best locally sourced meals you could hope to find.
With the rural setting, it’s no surprise that a huge number of hotels, B&Bs, glamping sites and short stay cottages have cropped up in the district. Melton is full of unique places to stay whether you want to sleep under canvas or in the more luxurious surroundings of Stapleford Park, which has hosted the likes of King George VI, Mariah Carey and Faye Dunaway.
