Zone 3 – Woodgate

Welcome to Woodgate and the riverside, a brilliant corner of Leicester where industrial history makes way for a burst of playful imagination. As part of the Bring The Paint festival, this district has become a canvas for incredible international artists and massive, showstopping walls. Walking around here is an absolute joy, you can marvel at Sofles’ colossal, high-energy masterpiece on Northgate Street, pick out your favourite playful cat character in Roo’s mural at the Warning Zone, or stop by the rear of the Indoor Bowls Club to see a contemporary, train-graffiti twist on The Last Supper.

It is an incredibly fun area for visitors, packed with interactive art, comic-style storytelling, and vibrant colours. You can watch classic cartoons come to life with Danger Mouse bursting through the railway arches, read the uplifting, giant typography of Kid Acne, or head over to the river to see the myth of Narcissus and Echo beautifully mirrored in the water. For a truly unique experience, don’t miss INSANE51’s mind-boggling 3D mural at North Mills, you can even grab a pair of 3D glasses nearby to watch the artwork completely transform before your eyes!

1. 1UP CREW – Bring The Paint Festival 2022

Berlin’s world-famous 1UP crew returned to Leicester in 2022 with a huge mural in their signature style. Painted in bold yellow, the massive “1UP” piece is filled with layered throw-ups that complete the fill.

2. BRUS – Bring The Paint Festival 2022

Italian letter master BRUS painted a bold piece carrying the message “Support Your Local Artist.” Known for his smooth, flowing letterforms, he used this wall not only to showcase his technical skill but also to champion the importance of valuing creativity within the community.

3. N4T4 X PHILTH – Bring The Paint Festival 2022

UK artists N4T4 and PHILTH, both members of the Never Ready crew, collaborated on a striking wall featuring two side-by-side portraits. Blending stylised photorealism with their individual touches, the piece highlights the skill and creativity that have made them standout figures in the UK street art scene.

4. HOW AND NOSM – Bring The Paint Festival 2022

Twin brothers HOW and NOSM returned to Leicester in 2022 with another monumental wall, this time on Soar Lane. Known worldwide for their intricate large-scale murals filled with interwoven detail, symbolism, and striking red, black, and white colour schemes, the duo once again demonstrated why they are regarded as leaders in the global graffiti scene. Their Soar Lane piece adds to their growing legacy within Bring The Paint.

5. ROO – Bring The Paint Festival 2022

Known for her expressive animal portraits that blend charm, character, and subtle humour, UK artist Roo brought a lively feline crowd to the walls of Warning Zone. The mural features a gathering of cats, each with its own distinct personality and attitude, creating a playful scene that draws viewers in for a closer look. Characteristic of Roo’s work, the piece captures both the individuality and collective energy of her subjects, transforming the site into a fun, animated moment within the city’s landscape.

6. 45RPM – Warning Zone, Bring The Paint 2022

Bristol-based artist 45RPM is best known for his playful, character-led murals filled with bold colour and humour. At Warning Zone, he created a vibrant wall of repeating paint tub characters — a clever nod to the festival’s own name, Bring The Paint. The design combines repetition and rhythm to create visual impact, turning a simple motif into a joyful celebration of creativity and street art culture.

7. DSET – Bring The Paint Festival 2022

In 2022, Leicester artist DSET painted the Warning Zone site with graffiti lettering set within an almost beach-like setting, blending urban art with natural elements. His letters and imagery are full of energy and movement.

8. SUPER A X KOST – Bring The Paint Festival 2024

In this energetic collaboration, Dutch artist SUPER A joined forces with KOST of YWS crew to pay homage to the golden era of underground train graffiti. The mural re-imagines the old District Line being transformed by KOST’s raw lettering whilst SUPER A’s trademark realism sets the scene. A panel by NELIS creeps through on the rear train whilst FREE ASKR is sprayed on the front in dedication to their crew mate.

9. SUPER A X KOST – Bring The Paint Festival 2024

Danger Mouse bursts through the archway bringing movement and mischief to this composition by SUPER A and KOST. Joining up with the adjacent archway, this piece celebrates both the rebellious spirit of classic graffiti and the creativity that continues to drive the culture forward.

10. TRIPL – Bring The Paint 2024

For Bring The Paint 2024, Tripl created a bold mural made up of a series of letters spelling out his name. He later repainted the colours of the piece frame by frame to form an animated GIF, bringing the wall to life in his own playful style. Known for constantly experimenting with movement and transformation in his work, Tripl is also the artist behind the Repainting Subway Art Project; an innovative series that reimagines Martha Cooper and Henry Chalfant’s genre-defining book.

11. SMASH – Bring The Paint 2024

Swiss graffiti artist SMASH137, renowned as a master of lettering, brought his signature style to Bring The Paint 2024. His mural demonstrates effortless letter flow and precision, showcasing why he is considered one of the leading figures in contemporary graffiti writing.

12. MSER – Bring The Paint 2024

Romanian subway artist MSER contributed to the Archway Series at Leicester Bowls Club car park with a vibrant, intricate letter piece. Known for his wildstyle graffiti, MSER’s work combines complex lettering with bold colour, encouraging a closer look to appreciate the details.

13. APER – Bring The Paint 2024

Underground graffiti writer Aper brought his bold lettering style to Bring The Paint 2024. Best known for painting trains and for his uncompromising approach to traditional graffiti, Aper’s work is raw, direct, and rooted in the culture’s foundations. His Leicester wall reflects that same energy.

14. CRUTS X DSET – Bring The Paint 2024

As part of the Archway Series at Leicester Bowls Club car park, local Leicester artist DSET teamed up with Birmingham’s Cruts to create a collaborative mural. Their piece combines regional styles and showcases the connection between neighbouring graffiti communities, adding fresh energy to the series.

15. DINER – Bring The Paint 2024

Peterborough artist DINER painted an archway at the Leicester Indoor Bowls car park for Bring The Paint 2024. His classic bold lettering fills the space with colour and energy.

16. OH BOY – Bring The Paint 2024

Romanian artist Oh Boy showcased his signature connected letter style as part of Bring The Paint 2024.

17. RCLS X MUTANTS – Bring The Paint 2022

RCLS transformed the space beneath a historic railway bridge into a celebration of subway graffiti culture. The artwork pays tribute to the global metro systems that inspired generations of street artists, depicting trains resting in shadowy tunnels—a nod to the origins of graffiti in the underground scenes of major cities. Using the bridge’s industrial setting and natural tunnel-like layout, RCLS seamlessly integrated the location’s history into the design.

18. SMT – Bring The Paint 2024

Graffiti crew SMT turned the side walls of the Great Central Street car park into a sweeping comic-style mural that chronicles their own tussles with the British Transport Police and the court system. With bold characters, dynamic layouts and a tongue-in-cheek narrative approach, the piece blurs the line between graffiti storytelling and modern street art. The mural celebrates the raw energy of writing culture while inviting viewers into a larger-than-life visual saga in the heart of Leicester.

19. KID ACNE – Bring The Paint 2024

Renowned Sheffield-based artist known for his distinctive wordplay and character-driven murals, contributed to the Bring The Paint 2024 festival in Leicester. His piece, titled “If It Don’t Fit, Don’t Force It, Just Relax and Let It Flow”, remains prominently displayed at the entrance to the Grand Central Street car park. This mural showcases Kid Acne’s signature style, blending bold lettering.

20. FLYING FORTRESS – Bring The Paint 2024

At the entrance to the car park, German street artist Flying Fortress created a character mural during the 2024 edition of the Bring the Paint festival. The piece features a walrus-like figure rendered in the artist’s recognisable cartoon style, with bold outlines, simplified forms, and expressive character design.

21. RUELO – Bring The Paint 2024

When a last-minute site change disrupted his plans, Slovakian artist RUELO adapted on the spot, creating a striking mural at Woodgate. He painted a large-scale portrait of his son set against a dynamic background of graffiti letter styles. The piece combines personal subject matter with his roots in lettering, showing both his adaptability and his ability to merge portraiture with traditional graffiti.

22. SOFLES – Bring The Paint 2024

Australian artist Sofles brought his signature large-scale energy to Leicester for Bring The Paint 2024, transforming the side of an old car dealership on Northgate Street into one of the festival’s most monumental murals. Spanning over 350 m², the piece fuses wildstyle graffiti lettering with dynamic figurative elements, showcasing Sofles’ mastery of movement, light, and form. Known internationally for blending technical precision with a raw graffiti spirit, he completed the vast work in just over five days.

23. ZINER

Ziner’s mural on Northgate Street mixes photorealistic portraiture with huge graffiti lettering in his distinctive style, packed with texture. The lifelike character and bold letters merge seamlessly, showing off his signature blend of realism and graffiti energy.

24. HATED BUT RATED – Leicester Indoor Bowls Club (Bring The Paint 2024)

During the 2024 Bring The Paint festival, the rear of the Leicester Indoor Bowls Club on Slater Street was transformed by the Hated But Rated crew. Their mural presents a contemporary reimagining of The Last Supper, featuring characters they’ve previously painted on trains as part of an ongoing series.

25. GUILMER

Brazilian artist Guime’s mural at 45 Northgate Street captures a moment of youthful imagination. Depicting a child writing down dreams in a journal, accompanied by a schoolbag and a cat playing with a ball of string, the piece blends vibrant colours and playful elements.

26. 2KOLD – Bring The Paint 2022

In 2022 artist 2Kold brought to life a scene from his acclaimed comic book, Zoot Patrol.

27. IOTA – Bring The Paint 2022

IOTA contributed a striking portrait during Bring The Paint 2022, painting a woman’s face in her distinctive painterly style. Blending soft brushwork with expressive detail, the mural stands out for its beauty and emotive presence, highlighting IOTA’s skill in creating portraits that feel both powerful and intimate.

28. INSANE 51 – Bring The Paint 2019

Greek 3D muralist INSANE51 painted a layered wall viewable with 3D glasses, revealing multiple images. Glasses are available from The Mill for visitors.

29. N4T4 – Bring The Paint 2019

N4T4 depicted the myth of Narcissus and Echo on the riverside. The mural shows Narcissus’ reflection and the word “ECHO” mirrored in the water, retelling the legend in paint.

30. SMT – Bring The Paint 2022

Underground UK graffiti crew SMT, known for their trainwriting background, brought their style into the festival with their largest wall to date at Rally House. Known for bold lettering and a strong presence in the graffiti underground, this mural showed how their energy and technique could scale up to monumental proportions. It marks a turning point for the crew, laying the foundation for future mural projects and international travel while staying true to their graffiti roots.

31. 45RPM – Bring The Paint 2022

45RPM brings his signature laid-back style to this mural, featuring a spray-painted character relaxing on the side of the building. Created for Bring The Paint 2022, the piece captures his playful approach to street art—bold, character-driven, and full of personality.

32. FLYING FORTRESS – Bring The Paint 2022

Flying Fortress, part of the JukeBoxCowboys crew, painted one of his iconic Teddy Troopers piloting a plane. These quirky helmeted figures are central to his artistic world.

33. WING LO

Grantham Climate Art Prize Mural. This mural depicting the climate crisis was created as part of the Grantham Climate Art Prize 2021. The winning design for Leicester, imagined by Stephany Perez-Morales (age 25), was brought to life by street art collective Graffwerk. The artwork captures both the beauty and fragility of the natural world, inspiring viewers to reflect on the urgent need for climate action and environmental care. In partnership with the Grantham Institute at Imperial College London and UKY4N.

34. TRIPL – Bring The Paint 2022

For Bring The Paint 2022, Tripl created an innovative multi-layered mural that explored movement and transformation in street art. The piece was repainted multiple times, with each layer slightly altered, allowing him to produce a time-lapse animation of the artwork evolving over time. This project highlighted Tripl’s experimental approach, blending traditional graffiti techniques with contemporary digital-inspired ideas, and demonstrating how murals can extend beyond static imagery.

35. GRAFFWERK X LCC

Commissioned by Leicester City Council, this large Woodgate mural shows how public art can play a key role in place-making and community identity. The artwork weaves together images of local flora and fauna, beautifully integrated within the text-based design, celebrating the natural life and character of the area.
