Culture and Heritage

Leicester is full of heritage which you’d expect from a city with 2000 years of history. It’s also a city overflowing with culture and creativity, much of which is focussed in the Cultural Quarter. Looking beyond the city and Leicestershire’s industrial heritage is just waiting to be discovered.

Leicester is a place with rich history, diversity and culture. It’s home to England’s tallest piece of Roman architect still standing at Jewry Wall and Europe’s tallest piece of street art. The exquisite Guildhall built in 1390 is the oldest surviving civic building and Wygston’s House, a medieval timber framed property, is the oldest private house in the city and is now a restaurant and bar.

And, of course, there is the globally renowned story of the King found beneath a city car park, who turned out to be King Richard III, the last of the Plantagenets.

Discover world class theatre, independent cinema, top live music venues, street art, exhibitions, great restaurants, trendy cocktail bars and real ale haunts, plus the LCB Depot, the hub of the city’s creative community.

Across Leicestershire there are many museums, castles, living history attractions, heritage trails and industrial past experiences to seek out.
