Uncover the Story

Grand design left unfinished by conspiracy theory

A story of intrigue, betrayal and murder lies behind this 15th century castle set in the middle of a residential area. Step back into the days of the Wars of the Roses as you take in the evocative and impressive remains then grab lunch at the 17th century Castle Hotel.

Take a walk round the unfinished remains of Kirby Muxloe Castle. While you can simply circle the moat and take in the stunning views of this 15th century brick-built mansion, you can also book tickets to take a guided tour of the interiors at the English Heritage website.

The castle is a very inexpensive trip, entry to the grounds is free, and you can simply walk round the outside of the moat and marvel at the beautiful architecture, or for a small fee, hear the history of the site from a local expert.

While there are no places to get refreshments on the site, you can always combine a trip to the castle with dinner at the nearby Castle Hotel and enjoy a fantastic meal with views of the castle.
