Members of the space community are invited to come together to mark World Space Week (Oct 4-10) and share ideas, receive updates and get to know others working in the sector at a Cosmic Coffee Space City Special event taking place in Leicester next month.
The European Space Agency Business Incubation Centre (ESA BIC) at the University of Leicester is delighted to sponsor Space Park Leicester’s community networking event taking place on Tuesday, 3 October, at DOCK, 75 Exploration Drive, in the heart of Space City.
Launching at 2pm, the hour-long informal get together is designed to provide a platform for those working in and around the space community at Space City and across the Midlands, to come together to share ideas, receive updates about what is going on and get to know those working in this exciting and expanding sector.
Crystal Carter Workspace Development Manager at DOCK said: “This event provides the perfect opportunity for those working in the space industry to get together to mark the start of World Space Week and join in the international celebration of science and technology and its contribution to the world.
“So, if you’re already working in or interested in getting involved with space and space -enabled industries, this event is for you!”
Sponsored by ESA BIC, Cosmic Coffee is free to attend and usually takes place at Space Park Leicester around the beginning of each month, so please follow Space Park Leicester on Eventbrite, Twitter, LinkedIn or sign up to our newsletter (www.space-park.co.uk/newsletter-signup) to receive updates about future events.
Priority access will be given to those actively working in the space industry or looking to commercialise a space technology. Numbers are limited due to space at the venue so please do register early to avoid disappointment.
World Space Week is an international celebration of science and technology, and their contribution to the betterment of the human condition. The United Nations General Assembly declared in 1999 that World Space Week will be held each year from October 4-10. These dates commemorate two events:
- October 4, 1957: Launch of the first human-made Earth satellite, Sputnik 1, thus opening the way for space exploration
- October 10, 1967: The signing of the Treaty on Principles Governing the Activites of States in the Exploration and Peaceful Uses of Outer Space, including the moon and other celestial bodies.
World Space Week consists of space education and outreach events held by space agencies, aerospace companies, schools, planetaria, museums, and astronomy clubs around the world in a common timeframe.
Crystal Carter added: “Join us for a special Cosmic Coffee from the heart of Space City at DOCK. Learn how the Space City ecosystem can support your business.”
Anyone interested in attending is asked to book via Space Park Leicester’s Eventbrite:
