Did you know the city hosts the biggest Diwali celebrations outside of India? The Festival of Lights is huge here with Belgrave Road’s Golden Mile illuminated with lights and dazzling firework displays in October and November. Leicester Comedy Festival in February is the oldest comedy festival in the world and has become an important part of the UK comedy calendar, with a reputation for spotting new talent including Jonny Vegas and Romesh Ranganathan. At Christmas local people can be seen skating on the ice rink or riding the big wheel and summer in the city is packed with a programme of outdoor events, entertainment, and family-friendly activities.
There are also a wide range of music festivals including international rock fest Download and tribute act heaven Glastonbudget. Or, for those that prefer something more close to the earth, the National Forest’s Timber Festival invites nature lovers, daydreamers and big thinkers to an annual celebration of nature through music, art, discussion and creativity in July.
