By the 1920s, Lincolnshire’s sand dunes contained a ramshackle array of structures used as holiday homes, made of an incredible range of recycled materials. The Sandhills Act of 1932 gave a council powers to remove these “eyesores” and restrict development in the name of conservation and so created much of the East Coast we know and love today.About Susan BartonDr Susan Barton is a historian of social, cultural and economic history and an Honorary Visiting Research Fellow at De Montfort University.
