Fawlty Towers
Fawlty Towers is a comedy play based on the iconic television sitcom of the same name, written by John Cleese and Connie Booth. Set in a fictional hotel in Torquay, Devon, the haughty and short-tempered hotel manager, Basil Fawlty, struggles to maintain social prestige while dealing with demanding guests, his sharp-tongued wife, and chaotic staff.
The play covers two hilarious episodes of the television series, act one being "Communication Problems" and act two "Basil the Rat."
Communication Problems: The hard-of-hearing Mrs Richards drives Basil crazy with her complaining, especially when a large amount of money is stolen from her room. Basil must also hide his gambling winnings from his wife.
Basil the Rat: Manuel insists that his pet rodent is a Siberian hamster. However, Basil is certain that the pet shop has sold him a rat, which is a fine thing to have running around the hotel when the public health inspector is also on the loose. Basil must find it before the inspector sees it and shuts the hotel down.
