This itinerary has a little bit of everything, museums, canal side walks and some fantastic food!

Morning

Start your day with breakfast, KAI in St Martin’s Square have delicious brunch on offer or there’s &KITH on Granby Street who have insta-worthy coffees, breakfast, brunch and dessert options. Once you’ve eaten your fill, then take a canal walk, starting around De Montfort University, you can follow the Grand Union canal trail all the way to the Space Centre if you want, but for this, you’re heading for North Mills where you can find Bitsy’s Emporium of Awesomeness, creators of some of the best cakes and treats in the city, and the most enormously delicious cheese toasties you can find.

Afternoon

If you want to try something in town, then head towards the market place and you can grab yourself one of a variety of coffees, flavoured teas, hot chocolate, fresh food or cakes from Orso, an Australia and Bali-inspired café. Or, as you’re going to be going that way anyway, stop on Market Street at 200 Degrees Coffee Shop with its beautiful art deco surroundings.

Now head towards New Walk, Leicester’s pedestrian promenade which dates back to Georgian times. Take a walk up towards the pillared frontage of Leicester Museum and Art Gallery and head inside for a journey of discovery. Whether you want to head to ancient Egypt, uncover the history of Leicester’s people, dig up the secrets of Leicestershire’s prehistory, or check out one of the temporary exhibitions, there’s so much to see there.

Evening

Once you’re finished it’ll be time for an early dinner and cutting through to Granby Street you could choose authentic Italian food at Happitaly, the very best vegetarian Indian dishes at Herb or pop round the corner onto Belvoir Street to family-run Italian Maurizios for a great selection of pizza and pasta.
