Beautiful cottages set on a working arable farm in Leicestershire
This gold-awarded holiday cottages and events venue is set on Upper Rectory Farm. It is a working arable farm with 200 acres of cornfields situated on the edge of the National Forest in Leicestershire. Jean and David bought the farm back in 1999, just a couple of months before the millennium – to extend their home farm next door.
When they acquired Upper Rectory Farm, the original barns, granaries, stabling and cowsheds were unusable for modern agriculture. So the couple cleverly converted them into holiday cottages which VisitEngland have since graded 4 and 5 star gold award. The luxury self-catering accommodation surrounds three pretty courtyards; the perfect space to relax with family, friends or colleagues whilst enjoying panoramic views across Leicestershire’s idyllic countryside. Jean and David’s daughter-in-law, Tori, has now taken over the latest interior design. She ensures the chic, contemporary decor of the cottages is maintained to the highest standard. So you can continue to enjoy your holidays and get-togethers at Upper Rectory Farm Cottages for years to come.
They are third generation arable farmers, and have since been joined by the fourth and fifth generations too. The family are kept busy running the main farm, which is three miles away. Sustainability is important to them – so some of the crops are used to feed an anaerobic digester which produces green energy and the organic fertiliser that’s used on the rest of the farm to grow the wheat. David and Jean love meeting guests and chatting about the farm, its crops and the state of the weather there – so if you want to know more, ask away during your stay.
