The Handmade Elephant

The Handmade Elephant is a fantastic little fabric and haberdashery store right in the heart of Wigston. They stock a large range of wool, fabric and supplies for all of your creative needs. Whether you’re looking for beads, felting, needles, dyes or anything else that you need to create something special they can help out.

Want to try your hand at knitting, sewing or crochet but don’t know where to start? They offer kits for both children and adults to help you get that creative bug, alongside all the supplies that embroidery, dressmaking and sewing experts swear by.

Set up in 2012 by Janet Stringer, she aimed to initially fuse high-quality materials and great design with functionality to create beautiful, fashionable baby clothes. Building on her 30+ year of professional expertise she finally opened the doors to The Handmade Elephant shop in South Wigston in 2018.

During the COVID shutdown, a boom in creativity meant that people were looking for haberdashery supplies and the Handmade Elephant was able to fill that need. They soon outgrew the facilities and relocated to The Arcade in Wigston Magna's shopping centre where they still provide a range of fabrics, wools, haberdashery and equipment.
