Experience the Battle of Bosworth and discover how King Richard III was defeated in a conflict which transformed the history of Britain, bringing the Middle Ages to an end and ushering in the Tudor dynasty which shaped the future of our country.

The excitement mounts as you travel the banner-lined pathway to Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre and Country Park. This is the site where, on 22nd August 1485, one king would be slain, another crowned, and the end of a bloody battle would herald the beginning of the Tudor dynasty and reshape the landscape of English history.

The location of the battlefield had been hotly debated until evidence was unearthed amongst the now tranquil landscape of South West Leicestershire. These unique findings – medieval cannon balls and items lost by combatants, including the iconic Bosworth Boar badge – are all on display in this award-winning interactive experience.

Visitors don’t just walk through the Heritage Centre’s exhibition – they also embark on an incredible journey through medieval England via films, images and activities in eight hands-on galleries.

They’ll have an insider’s view on how the Battle of Bosworth unfolded and hear stories from the characters who would have lived through it. There’s John, a battlefield archer, and the barber surgeon, who cut hair and amputated limbs. There’s also Henry Tudor’s stepfather, Lord Thomas Stanley, who only took Henry’s side once Richard III had succumbed to boggy ground and was fighting on foot. Visitors can also step into armour and try out an archer’s bow for a real-life taste of the horrors of medieval warfare.

The heritage centre is just one part of the experience, as outside its doors is the 2.2km Battlefield Trail, with accompanying audio and visual information stations, and a network of footpaths meandering through a stunning landscape.

Visitors of all ages will find something to enjoy at the Battlefield Centre and Country Park - where the dramatic story of how King Richard III lost his life, crown and the throne of England to Henry Tudor is told. There are a wide range of outdoor activities, including guided and self-led walks, living history events and a packed events programme throughout the year. The 1485 Tithe Barn restaurant offers a variety of refreshments and the well-stocked shop has a great range of souvenirs, gifts and books.

Individual and Family Entry Tickets are valid for 12 months (Annual Pass) from the date of purchase but do exclude special events including the annual Bosworth Medieval Festival Weekend in August.

The Battlefield Centre site is fully accessible and includes a lift from the Exhibition Galleries to the shop. There is a free charge Mobility Scooter and 2 Manual Wheelchairs available for the use of visitors - (pre-booking recommended).
