Hinckley and Bosworth

Follow in the footsteps of one of Britain’s most controversial monarchs as you visit King Richard III country.

Richard met his end at Bosworth Battlefield in 1485 at the hands of Henry Tudor, and that battle completely changed the course of English history bringing an end to the Plantagenet line. You can explore the Battlefield and the nearby town of Market Bosworth, with its picture postcard cobbled streets, showstopping floral displays and market which was granted a Royal Charter by Edward I in 1285. Wanting to stay a night, then why not book into the beautiful Bosworth Hall Hotel and Spa?

Running through the countryside by Market Bosworth is the Battlefield Line, on of Leicestershire’s two heritage railways, with steam trains running alongside the Ashby Canal into neighbouring North West Leicestershire and the heart of the National Forest. The region is also home to one of our best-loved attractions. Twycross Zoo is the only place in the UK where you can see all four species of Great Ape (five if you count the humans), and now they have opened their new Gruffalo Land attraction, it’s the perfect day out for the whole family.

And the county town of Hinckley is home to all kinds of great events throughout the year, from their famous motorshows to the market, which dates back to the 1300s and runs three times a week. And the theme of vehicles is at the heart of Hinckley thanks to the home of the world-famous Triumph motorbikes. At their factory tour, you can find out how these amazing machines are made, and see bikes used by Tom Cruise, Steve McQueen and James Bond himself!
