Writing Music for Children’s Theatre with Jude Taylor

9th December
Curve Theatre, Rutland Street, Leicester, LE1 1SB

Over the last 3 years, Jude Taylor has composed music and written lyrics for Curve’s festive family shows – THE OWL WHO CAME FOR CHRISTMAS, PIRATES LOVE UNDERPANTS and ALIENS LOVE PANTA CLAUS. Join Jude for a workshop on composing music for younger audiences, exploring the role of music in bringing these exciting stories to life and engaging children and families. Jude will talk through some of his own writing process, before inviting you to practically explore how you might approach writing your own song for a young audience, using an example from ALIENS LOVE PANTA CLAUS.

Jude Taylor is a composer, lyricist and writer from Leicester. He is a Generate Associate Artist at the Royal & Derngate in Northampton and is a Curve Resident Creative Alumni. In addition to his original musical theatre work, including ‘Is He Musical?’ (Curve; The Other Palace) and ’The Unconventionals’ (VAULT Festival), Jude has also written music and lyrics for stage adaptations of ’The Owl Who Came for Christmas’, ‘Pirates Love Underpants’ and ‘Aliens Love Panta Claus’. He is passionate about making work with local communities and with children and young people, and has most recently collaborated with young people in schools as an artist on the National Theatre ’Speak Up’ programme.
