The Sitar Music Society presents Tribute to Ustad Vilayat Khan

22nd March
Attenborough Arts Centre, University of Leicester, Lancaster Road, Leicester, LE1 7HA

A tribute to the late great sitarist Ustad Vilayat Khan.

Vilayat Khan (1928-2004) was a child prodigy to whom goes the credit of taking the sitar beyond the shores of India. He was a contemporary of Pandit Ravi Shankar, but developed the distinctly different Gayaki style of performance, and reconfigured the instrument accordingly. He hails from a distinguished musical family with roots in the Mughal era.

We are honoured to have one of his leading disciples in Leicester - Ustad Dharambir Singh MBE, who will introduce a selection of his compositions played by his students.
