Stitch Weekend: A celebration of embroidery and creativity inspired by the work of Mary Linwood

A weekend of stitchy stuff related to the Mary Linwood exhibition. Event includes historic textile handling, expert talks, vintage textile and book sales, artist demos and lots of stitch activities to try.

Over the weekend, there will be a textile takeover of Leicester Guildhall, in celebration of Mary Linwood and of stitchers of today.

The event includes:

- Embroidery to try – historic techniques and modern interpretations
- Display of Mary Linwood’s materials and the chance to try her needle painting with wool technique
- Study sessions each day of embroidery & dress from the time of Mary Linwood (from Ruth Singer’s personal collections)
- Colourful cord-making (as seen in Connected Threads)
- Talks and in-conversations with Ruth & experts Dr Heidi Strobel and Dr Isabella Rosner
- Contemporary embroidery artist demonstrations and displays
- Antique and vintage textiles, threads and books for sale
