Prepare to be uplifted, inspired, and moved to your feet as the sensational London African Gospel Choir comes to Leicester with their critically acclaimed, soul-deep reinterpretation of one of the most beloved albums of all time: Paul Simon’s Graceland .
This one-of-a-kind show sees the 22 -piece pan African choir—comprised of world-class vocalists, musicians and dancers from across Africa and the diaspora—breathe new life into the iconic 1986 album. Expect irresistible rhythms, soaring harmonies, joyous dance, and the spiritual power of gospel, and an added touch as the choir incorporates the African diaspora.
The evening opens with a stunning first set that showcases the Choir’s own unique African gospel repertoire—a moving and high-energy celebration of the Choir’s roots. These songs, drawn from across the continent, reflect the Choir’s deep musical heritage, featuring traditional call-and-response, layered vocal textures, and powerful spiritual themes that resonate with audiences of all backgrounds.
Then, in the second half, the Choir turns its collective energy to Paul Simon’s Graceland —a groundbreaking fusion of American songwriting and South African musical genius. From Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes to You Can Call Me Al and Homeless, every track is reimagined through a lens that brings it closer to the heart of the music’s cultural origins.
Since their first sold-out performance of Graceland Reimagined in London, the London African Gospel Choir has wowed thousands across the UK, Europe, and North America. Their interpretation has received universal praise not only for its technical brilliance but for its heartfelt authenticity and electrifying emotional connection.
“Extraordinary! Every song was a highlight… the musicianship and vocal power were incredible.” — Songlines Magazine
Join us for a night where rhythm meets reverence, where music builds bridges, and where Graceland comes home to its African soul.
