More Than Macabre: Stephen King On Screen

A 4-week course taking you through the history of Stephen King on screen – from the horror that made his name, to the Oscar nominated dramas for which he often gets little credit.

Stephen King is more than just an author, being amongst that rare breed of writers whose name and style are known even by those who have perhaps never picked up one of his (often hefty) books. Much of that has to do with the extraordinary number of film and television adaptations of his work. Indeed, although a hefty margin separates them, he is second only to William Shakespeare in terms of the number of adaptations that exist, including those with which he has been directly involved.

There are classic works that have become classic films. Carrie, The Shining, Misery. There are films that some might not even realise originate from the horror master's pen, such The Shawshank Redemption or Stand By Me.

You may not know Stephen King as well as you might think. But he knows you.

ABOUT THE TUTOR

Kenton Hall is an award-winning Canadian writer, director, musician and actor. In 2015, he wrote, directed and co-starred in the feature film A Dozen Summers, now available on Netflix.

He also wrote the comic memoir Bisection, about living and parenting with bipolar disorder, co-wrote the Audible Drama Getting Better, starring Rhod Gilbert, Kathryn Drysdale and Mark Gatiss, co-adapted and co-directed for audio, the lost silent horror film London After Midnight (starring Art Malik) and wrote the Doctor Who musical spin-off Children of the Circus and its novelisation. Somewhere in between he released the triple album Idiopath as Kenton Hall & The Necessary Measures. He both looks and is tired.
