Messiah: Come and Sing Workshop

12th December
St Michael's Church, New Road, Leicester, LE9 4TH

Castle Baroque Players' Lead Tutor Karen Silverwood and Artistic Director Seb Carrington host a workshop day on Handel's Messiah . This workshop is ideal for singers who want a chance to perform choruses from Messiah with a period-instrument orchestra, and for instrumentalists who want expert tuition in historically-influenced performance. You will also meet a wide and varied selection of choral and solo singers from across the region.

HOW THE WORKSHOP IS STRUCTURED

The workshop is split into three sessions: a sectional for Singers/Players to work on the music, a full rehearsal with all musicians, and an informal performance with soloists from Castle Baroque Singers.

We will not be performing the entirety of Messiah , instead working closely on a broad selection of choruses.

Participants are advised to bring a packed tea, however hot and cold refreshments will be provided throughout the day.

WHO CAN TAKE PART

Singers - We have spaces open for all voice types, and anyone can take part, whether you are new to Messiah or know the work intimately. There will be something new to learn for everyone involved. It is preferable that you bring your own copy of Messiah. We will be referring to the Novello HandelEdition edited by Watkins Shaw.

Players - We have select spaces for string players to join Castle Baroque Players for this event: 3 Violins, 2 Violas, and 2 Cellos. It is preferable that you have a period instrument, or at least a baroque bow, for the event.
