Heritage Open Days 2025
Heritage Open Days are the perfect opportunity to explore Leicester’s most fascinating attractions. This September you can step inside historic gems such as Leicester Cathedral, the medieval Guildhall, or marvel at the restored beam engines at Abbey Pumping Station. Many sites not normally open to the public – from hidden courtyards to places of worship – will also be welcoming visitors free of charge.
The programme includes guided tours, exhibitions, talks and family activities, giving you the chance to uncover stories that shaped the city. Highlights include the atmospheric Newarke Houses Museum, the impressive Town Hall, and a chance to trace Leicester’s industrial past at the award-winning King Richard III Visitor Centre. Whether your interest lies in medieval history, Victorian engineering, or more modern architecture, you’ll find plenty to enjoy.
To get the best from your visits, plan your route in advance, check opening times carefully, and remember that some activities require booking. Wear comfortable shoes, bring a camera, and leave time to simply wander – you may stumble across hidden gems along the way.
Heritage Open Days are a wonderful chance to enjoy Leicester’s rich and diverse heritage, meet knowledgeable volunteers, and see the city from a new perspective.
