Glenfield Historic Railway Tunnel tours

Guided tours of the Glenfield Historic Railway Tunnel, the longest steam passenger railway in the world when it opened in 1832.

Please be aware that the tour starts at the old rectory on Kirby road and not the tunnel entrance, there is ample parking at the old rectory and none at the tunnel entrance at Stephenson Court where it is residents only.
Please also note that there are no toilet facilities at either venue and the tunnel is unsuitable for disabled access and push chairs due to the ground conditions.
Visitors are advised to wear stout footwear and warm clothing as the tunnel is wet and rough underfoot with an average temperature of 14 degrees Centigrade even during the summer months.
The tour consists of a walk of one mile and is not suitable for small children due to the distance and conditions.
Dogs are not allowed in the tunnel.
