Grimley Colliery is set to close; the accountants say there's more money in it shut than open, even after redundancy payments. It means 1,200 job losses, a dying town and the loss of its brass band.
But despite coughing through coal-dusted lungs, under revered band leader Danny's direction, the group are somehow transformed into contenders for the National Championships at the Albert Hall.
Based on the 1996 smash-hit film, this is a heart-warming story of community spirit and triumph over adversity. It's both poignant and funny, with rousing music performed live by The Enderby Band.
Written 30 years ago, but still a story for our time.
