Beginners Crochet

A five-week introductory course for anyone new to crochet.

This friendly and informal course is for complete beginners to give you the confidence to use a pattern and start your first crochet creations. In week one you will receive everything you will need to get you started including a ball of yarn, crochet hook and a few other goodies. To accompany this course, you will receive a new worksheet each week to enable you to practice at home between classes.

Week 1

Learn about hooks, yarn weights and yarn packaging, how to hold the hook and yarn, how to create a foundation chain, the double crochet stitch and how to fasten off your work.

Week 2

Practice chain stitch and double crochet from Week 1 and learn new stitches - half treble, treble and double treble.

Week 3

Practice all stitches learned over Weeks 1 and 2 plus joining yarn, weaving in ends and seaming, understanding abbreviations and mesh pattern.

Week 4

Making a ring working in a spiral and working in rounds.

Week 5

Making Granny squares .

For fast learners there is also an opportunity to learn basic flowers and increase and decrease methods.
