Audhd & Women: Exploring Gender Bias In Neurodivergence

28th April
The Sue Townsend Theatre, Upper Brown Street, Leicester, LE1 5TE

Discover how ADHD & Autism present differently in women, and tips on how to manage your neurodivergence. Followed by Q&A.

Until 2013, it wasn’t possible to be formally diagnosed with both autism and ADHD, yet research now shows these conditions co-occur in up to 80% of cases. Despite this, neurodivergence has long been understood through a male lens, leaving countless women misdiagnosed, misunderstood, and unsupported. In this eye-opening talk, Dr Lauren Breese unpacks the science of AuDHD in women - revealing how gender bias, societal expectations, and the art of masking have shaped (and distorted) our understanding of what autism and ADHD “should” look like.

Drawing on cutting-edge research and her clinical experience, Dr Breese will explore how AuDHD can manifest in women across attention, social situations, sensory experiences, executive function, and emotional regulation. She’ll also consider the impact of late diagnosis and the daily realities of navigating a world built for neurotypical minds. This talk isn’t just about challenges, it’s about strengths, validation, and self-understanding. Dr Breese will share neuroaffirming insights and practical strategies to help AuDHD women recognise their unique patterns, harness their strengths, and thrive authentically.
