All Shades of Brown with Keith Piper
Returning for its second edition, All Shades of Brown 2026 is a one-day conference designed to uplift and connect Global Ethnic Majority creatives. Taking place at The Venue, De Montfort University, Leicester, the event offers panels and workshops on funding, sustaining a career in the Midlands, maintaining cultural authenticity, overcoming systemic barriers, and accessibility in creative practice. Attendees will also have the chance to network with peers, organisations, and funders, and explore a public community exhibition showcasing Midlands-based creatives.
Headlined by Keith Piper, artist, educator, and founding member of the BLK Art Group, the conference provides access to sector leaders, practical guidance, and the tools needed to navigate systemic barriers while building sustainable creative careers.
The Midlands, including Leicester (59%), Birmingham (51%), and Nottingham (34%), is culturally diverse but underrepresented in the creative industries, with only around 10% of UK creative jobs located in the region. All Shades of Brown creates a platform for Global Majority creatives to gain visibility, build networks, and thrive.
